Terms of Accreditation

The terms of accreditation is deliberated by the accrediting committee and is approved by the KAAB board of directors, which ultimately is reported to the programs. The accrediting committee reviews the visiting team report, confidential proposal and all the other related documents prepared by the program. The terms of accreditation is determined by the following:

  • 1. The architectural education program has a self-evaluation system and displays efforts to achieve its establishment goal
  • 2. The architectural education program has set appropriate procedures to reinforce its weak points pointed out prior to the site visit
  • 3. The architectural education program provides an environment that meets the accreditation conditions and is suitable for running a professional degree course
  • 4. The architectural education program fosters students that fulfill the Student Performance Criteria
  • 5. The architectural education program provides a library suitable for running a professional degree course
  • 6. The architectural education program has the necessary resources for maintaining the level of scholastic achievement

Grade of Accreditation

Grade Content
Five-year Term Accreditation is valid for full 5 years if identified issues are minor and program possesses clear plan for improvement
Three-year Term Accreditation is valid for 3 years following the year of the visit, if identified deficiencies are considered major and the program is believed to resolve them with clear plan and accessible resources. If the accreditation term of the following term of the first 3-year term is resulted in two or three-year term, the program's next accreditation term must result in three-year term or above. Otherwise the program's accreditation is immediately revoked.
Conditional Two-year Term Accreditation is valid for 2 years following the year of the visit, if deficiencies are found to be major and the program fail to display clear resolution. Conditional two-year term is given with the list of important conditions to be resolved by the next site visit in two years. The program's accreditation term immediately following the 2-year term must result in 3-year term or above. Otherwise the program's accreditation is immediately revoked.
Temporary Suspension of Accreditation If the program's deficiencies are critical enough to hinder having successful site visit, accreditation is suspended until another site visit. The temporary suspension of accreditation is given with a list of conditions to be resolved and the term cannot exceed more than a year.
Revocation of Accreditation During a initial site visit if the team find that deficiencies are substantial enough and appear difficult to resolve, or APR is not submitted to KAAB within given deadline, accreditation is denied.
